Karen Johnson

February 22, 1942 – March 30, 2023

Karen Ann Johnson, aged 81, residing in Longmont, Colorado passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.

Karen was born in Denver, Colorado on February 22, 1942, to Pauline Tripp and Keith McChesney. She was a long-distance telephone operator at Mountain Bell, attended Colorado State University, and then became a homemaker. At the age of 22, she married Edgar Johnson and went on to have three children. Her son Michael Johnson preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her daughters Darcie Kim and Melany Niemann and her grandchildren Molly McGuire and Jacob Niemann.

Karen spent her life volunteering at her church, preparing and serving meals at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, and creating beautiful quilts with the Interfaith Quilters of Longmont. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, watching the Colorado Rockies, and spending the winter with her husband Ed in Morro Bay, California in their RV.

Memorial services will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Boulder on Saturday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. Attendees can join virtually at
